Aathi (Vijay) has a mission to accomplish. To carry this out, he joins a college in Chennai against the wishes of his parents (Seethaand Manivannan). Anjali (Trisha) is also a student of the same college. Both Anjali and Aathi lead a life of gilded surface, which disguises the darkness beneath. Both, Aathi and Anjali want to avenge the killers of their parents.

The irony is that they both aim the same killers, without the other knowing about this.Aathi and Anjali cross each other on several occasions in the college, and soon they understand that they both have same tastes and liking. As the life goes, their relationship advances. Oncewhile performing rites, Aathi recognizes his Uncle (Nasser) andlearns that Anjali is his own Uncle’s daughter. Together they decide to assassinate the baddies RDX (Saikumar) and his henchmen. How they accomplish this forms the rest of the story.

Vijay as Aathi excels in his performance and his screen presences is terrific. He fits the role of a cold-blooded undercover assassin andthe actions scenes by Peter Haynes are well choreographed. For a change, Trisha has got equal footage as Vijay and she has also given a commendable performance. She looks ravishing especially in song sequences. The lead pair’s well-known chemistry once again comes alive on screen.

Saikumar from Tollywood as RDX has performed brilliantly. He is a perfect choice for the crude character. Vivek as a mild, well-manned sidekick manages to tickle the funny bone in his cameo. Prakash Raj,Nasser, Manivannan and Seetha have done their brief rolls well.The film has a high dose of violence and not many lighter moments.

Though the first half of the film is good the second half s a trifle dull and drags as it show the hero assassinating all the villains and hence become predictable.Director Ramanaa may have a valid excuse to justify the overdose of violence; after all it’s a remake. However, better editing could have made the film crisper.

Vidyasagar’s music is good. Particularly the song “Olli, Olli Iduppe…” stands out. Soundarrajan’s camera has captured some scenic locals of Switzerland in song sequences.Though not bracingly pleasurable, the movie is worth for its well etched out dialogues, racy action sequences and Vijay’s brisk acting.

But before the interval, Genelia is kidnapped by his uncle.

ANALYSIS OF THE MOVIE

The movie is worth watching. Dhanush and Genelia just rock. Even Vivek is excellent at his trademark comedy.

However one might feel suffocated at the 'excessively' sentimental scenes occasionally.

The music, camerawork, and other technical department are okay.

Muthukumar and Yuga Bharathy have penned the lyrics. A song sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Tanvi Shah is sure to rock the floor. The movie is expected to hit the screens in the month of August.

Lingusamy's 'Paiyya' is a deplorable flick that lacks solidity on many parts. With first half filled with fun, love and some enjoyable songs, the post-intermission sequences turns to be a very big disappointment for the audiences.

Lingusamy had precisely proved himself to be a simpleton with his previous films 'Ji' and 'Bheema'. Now, it's time to repeat the ludicrous act of copycatting his very own yesteryear successful film– 'Sandakozhi'.

In simple terms, 'Paiyya' remains as an unconvincing mixture of Vijay's 'Ghilli' and 'Sandakozhi' and incisively you should've guessed what the film is all about.

The film opens in Maxim city of Bangalore, where a freewheeling chap Shiva (Karthi) comes across a beautiful gal Charu (Thamannah). When he's woolgathering about her day and night, it's an instant to relish when the same girl asks him to drive her for Mumbai.

The girl is wedged in a deplorable situation she is being forced to get married to her stepmother's brother. With Shiva enjoying every minute of this journey as in paradise, Charu is preoccupied with her problems. As the travel goes forward on a highway, the rowdies are already tracking her. Somehow, being saved by Shiva with his smart driving, he takes a different route to Mumbai only to find other group of baddies chasing them.

For a special surprise, this group isn’t looking for Charu, but Shiva himself that ends in a smash-down combat.

The second half opens up with a flashback sequence where Shiva had bashed down the deadliest don of Mumbai (Millind Soman). Rest of the film involves about the journey ending up in Mumbai, the two gangs setting out for a hand-in-hand combat with Shiva and how the scores are ensconced.

Endiran songs

               One of the most awaited film of the year, Endhiran starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai is in its post production stage. Reportedly director Shankar has given the edited version of the film to maestro A.R. Rahman for working on the background score.

Director Shankar has also revealed in his blog that the film will have six songs and one has been sung by maestro himself; Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty is the sound designer.

Robot could have been a fantastic movie. Using nuts, bolts, wires, jazzy computer consoles, titanium and silicon is the neatest way yet to legitimize Extreme Rajini and everything that he has stood for.

Because Chitti (Rajinikanth), the robot, is a master of a zillion skills, knows everything there is to know, fights like the meanest war machine the US has ever built, and is more brilliant than anything you've ever imagined. He can be Goddess Durga when he has to finish off cheap goons who use Her name, or Lord Krishna when he has to rescue the heroine from gang rape. He can push the limits of medical science by carrying out complicated obstetrics, and he can recharge his batteries at will. Heck, he can dismantle himself even.

This invincible automaton was built by a super-intelligent scientist, Dr. Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth). Indeed, the question of who is more awesome - the Creator or the Creation - becomes increasingly too mind-numbing to even think of.

But alas, this alchemy of Rajini-ness, this metallic immortalization of his quirks, isn't allowed to finish in peace. Shankar, who begins by feeding off the superstar's charisma and doling out a playfully cute first act, chucks the scriptwriters out after the interval and makes the film an exaggeration of every bit of ridiculousness that Rajini cynics so love to ridicule.

Remakes have always been safe bets for Vijay and director M Raja. With the former having a track record of films like ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’, ‘Ninaithen Vandhai’, ‘Priyamanavale’ and ‘Pokkiri’, the latter has carved a niche for himself doing remakes from ‘Jayam’ to ‘Santosh Subramaniam’.

                                                And now, both have come together for ‘Velayudham’, which too is said to be a remake of a Telugu hit, titled ‘Aazad’. Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, the film that was launched amidst much fanfare has two heroines- Genelia and Hansika Motwani.

Says Raja, “This is my first film with a big actor like Vijay. He suits to the role well. The movie is about an ordinary youngster who transforms as a catalyst to reform the society. I am hopeful ‘Velayudham’ will work big time with the audience.”


“Vijay plays an enterprising youngster while Genelia is doing the role of a journalist,” the director says and adds: “Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan are also doing crucial characters. Comedy will be taken care of by Santhanam and Sathyan.”


                       The plot is interesting. Genelia reports that a superhero is saving the city and circumstances lead Vijay to accidentally save the city from the impostors, making him the accidental superhero!

                  Vijay’s costumes in the movie seem to be inspired from a popular game title. Though nothing is known how long he’d be wearing the costumes, the first look given by the makers suggest Vijay’s up to something big!

Saying Priyan’s cinematography will be a highlight and Vijay Antony has come out with catchy songs, Raja continues: “On the whole, ‘Velayudham’ will be a wholesome treat to not just Vijay fans, but for every movie-goer.”

On his part, Vijay says, “Working for a big banner like Aascar gives me immense proud. Raja is known for his knack to deliver blockbusters without a break. ‘Velayudham’ is a nice story. Hopefully our combination should rock.”

Young hero Jeeva who is playing a dual role in his forth coming film ‘Singam Puli’ audio was out in stores recently. Divya Spandana is playing the lady love of Jeeva. The film directed by Sai Ramani and produced by S. Parthiban and S. SriniVasan is expected to hit the screens on December 24th. Mani Sharma rendered the music and the album features six tracks.

                      Figaru rehashes Okkadu’s Hare rama and it continues to work well, barring cringe-worthy lyrics. Post that, having lost track of all of Mani Sharma’s rehashes, the ones that stand out are Kangalal – a spiffy melody handled in true Mani style and Poove poove, a Rahul Nambiar solo that, again, is perfectly in sync with Mani’s ambient, sweeping melodies! Ullasam and Naadilla are disjoint and terribly lame tunes, but the soundtrack comes to an end with the rollicking Varraale, a kuthu song that is a perfect combo of Tamil and Telugu styles! Nothing new here; old wine rehashed reasonably skillfully.

Rajamouli, it stars Karthi, performing dual roles, and Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead. The film, produced by Studio Green’s K. Gnanavelraja and featuring music by Vidyasagar, is currently in its filming stage and scheduled for a January 2011 Pongal release.

Palghat Sriram gives an outlook of Madurai in this song. The city is the hero in this song. Nothing special about the music here but S Gnanakaravel perfectly describes what Madurai is all about. From ‘Sanga Tamizh' and 'Lanthu Tamizh' to the markets, theatres and the gopurams, Vaigai Siricha is like a travel guide to people. The song also throws light into the friendliness and the gutsy behavior of Madurai people. An apt song to mark the start of the album.

Legendary actor Chandrababu's Kalyanam Kalyanam song is brought to life here. A bit of DJ mixing in between with some usual sounds is what this remix is all about. Karthik does a decent job in describing marriage and its bliss. This song should be aired on radio and television just for the popularity of its original version.

The start of this song start on the same notes of a popular yesteryear song but this one is about friendship and the bond friends share for years. Again the music does not impress much and Madhu Balakrishnan's effort does not help the cause either. The song fails to make an impression!

This is like a 'thiruvizha song'. We can easily visualize the song while listening to it. Shankar Mahadevan's subtle modulations give the required zest to the song. This high octane number must catch up with the audience once they see Madurai's beauty on screen.
Verdict:

Overall, Thoonga Nagaram shines in bits but is not a well etched album. Though Sundar C. Babu has used different sounds with the traditional folk instruments, the songs fail to live in our memories for long. The songs could fit in the movie with apt situations. Thoonga Nagaram is a decent album to listen to but fails to captivate us.

Simbu has started the shooting for his upcoming new film Vaanam from yesterday (July 10). Vaanam is the remake of the critically acclaimed Telugu film Vedam. Simbu will be playing the popular ‘Cable Raja’ character, which was done by Allu Arjun in the original which also had Anushka, Manoj Manchu, Lekha Washington and Manoj Bajpai in the lead. From Telugu only Anushka and Manoj Manchu will be there in the Tamil version which will be directed Krish who did the original. Vedam, said to be a path-breaking film in Telugu, had Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu (actor Mohan Babu’s son), Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai, Anushka and Lekha Washington in the lead. The film follows the pattern set by Mexican director Alejandro Gonsalez Inarritu’s classic Amores Perros (2000) in style, a multiple storytelling format where all the stories converge in the climax. Vaanam songs will be scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja while camera is by Nirav Shah and editing by Anthony. Vaanam is being produced by VTV productions and Magic Box.

Simbu felt that the Telugu film would be a viable proposition in Tamil too. Says the star, "I was impressed by it, especially Allu Arjun's characterisation. After VTV, I thought this role will be ideal as the character has mass appeal. At the same time, multiplex audiences will also love it. 
                                     
                                 However, the grapevine has it that Simbu is doing the film only because he is smitten by Anushka. Vaanam gives him an opportunity to work with the elusive actress. Simbu smiles, "I have always said that I'm a big fan of Anushka and would love to work with her. I took up the film as the script is good. The A team of technicians from Kollywood — Yuvan Shankar Raja, Antony and Nirav Shah — are working on this project. Also, one of the producers is my friend Ganesh of VTV fame."

                               The star has given continuous dates to director Krish till the end of the month to complete his part in the film. And the big news is that there will be a mass kuthu song (not there in the original version) picturised on Simbu and Anushka. The movie will be a 'quickie' and release of Diwali. Post Vaanam, the hero will leave for the shoot of Poda Podi and start work on Lingusamy's film in September.

It might have been a bleak scenario for Vijay’s ‘Kaavalan’ as it didn’t open on Pongal day unlike Dhanush’s ‘Aadukalam’ and Karthi’s ‘Siruthai’. The producers of ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Siruthai’ were on cloud nine as they had a good opening and quite confident that they can spin more profits as Vijay’s ‘Kaavalan’ had some worst problems that would keep it away from release.
Story:
Bhoominathan (Vijay) works under a powerful landlord called Muthuramalingam (Raj Kiran) as a bodyguard. Following a death threat for his daughter Meera (Asin) from his rival, Muthu appoints Bhoomi as her personal bodyguard. He accompanies Meera and her friend Madhu (Mithra Kurian) to college to protect them from the threat. But his presence at her college makes her irritating and tries to get rid of him by playing pranks with him. She starts making calls from a private number to distract him from his duties telling him that she is in love with him. As expected, after series of events, they fell in love. What happens next should be seen on-screen.
Vidyasagar's music and N. K. Ekambaram cinematography are also commendable. However, the story looks weak at parts. The director should have worked a lot more on the script. Though, he has made some changes to suit Vijay's image, still there are many loop holes in the film.
